The first stage consists in the excess cell developments that have no proper function and end up in a conglomerate of tissue cell organism that sticks to the right side of the ovarian surrounding tissue, along with the fallopian tube, and creates a tumor. The second stage represents the spreading towards the other organs, but still named ovarian cancer, because of the ovarian provenience cell tissue from which it is developed.

It is the fourth death cause for women, in almost every country in the world. The drama behind this affection lies in the fact that it has a non symptomatic phase when it develops more and more powerful and impactful without any presumption of its existence and because most of the therapy used to treat it has no effective solution.

The main weapon in fighting the ovarian cancer is by public awareness, a lot of marketing and mass media attention. First implemented media methods consisted in some small brochures that were placed only in the gynecological clinic. Then, after it had a constant increase in number, recent statistics that manage to overwhelm not only the medical community but also the public that started an informational campaign.

First in high schools to encourage teen girls to talk about this with their parents, if there is a cancerous history in the family, at which age was detected, question their mother especially, find out about the risk and the possible solution and overall encouragement to visit an oncologist- a medical doctor specialized in ovarian cancer affections.

Female activists started public marches right in the street, in order to open every woman’s eyes and make them go to a test.

From this point marketing entered the awareness stage and it had a different approach that combined the capital oriented corporate objectives with a humanitarian cause.

They invested in shirts, hats, scarfs, pants, jackets, cups, mugs, cardboard boxes, and anything that could be printed on. They printed various messages that the female activists used to write on their banners, billboards and other carton materials.

The industry developed in a progressive fashion and soon enough the sarcasm jokes appeared but still In a positive direction for the ovarian cancer public awareness and the whole philosophy behind it.

But sarcastic tee shirts weren’t the only thing that these social current created.  In America alone ovarian cancer affects one thousand women year by year. A better method was needed to get the public’s attention in this direction. Something bizarre, something that the eyes turn upon, and something that shocked hard enough to get the idea…so the Ovarian Cancer Tattoos were born.

It started as an idea, from a girl who “escaped” from this disease that really impacted her life and so she decided to ink the moment, to keep it forever, and take it anywhere. She wrote “ I kicked ovarian cancer’s ass”.
