Statistics Of Ovarian Cancer

Published on Mar 18 2010, in the categories: Statistics

Ovarian cancer is one of the most deadly affections that exist today. The statistics in this region claim that this particular disease, called also the ‘silent killer’ is responsible for the deaths of almost fifty two thousand women year by year. Not to mention the fact that women worldwide suffer from the effects of this terrible condition. And this is also a large scale number that reaches up to one hundred thousand.

Ovarian cancerous affections unfortunately have a particular way of evolution. It is called the silent killer for a reason, and this is because of the almost invisible symptomatic states that this disease has. In most of the cases the sufferers are unaware of their condition until the ovarian cancer is fully developed and already well spread in the body so it can make damages.

The cause of its apparition is still a medical mystery to the oncology boards worldwide and while not managing to understand all the particularities of this disease, it is very hard to create a standard and universally working cure or treatment.

The symptomatic states include sensations of bloating, urge to urinate, followed closely by a stinging sensation, often reports show that many suffering women have problems with the consumption of alimentary products, rapid fullness sensation after eating a light meal, some absorption problematic issues.

This of course is strongly related to the fact that the ovarian cancerous affection is clearly defined by its four stages of development and evolution. The first two stages are basically the important ones, because the effects of these stages lead to the more negative sides of this disease. These are also the phases where the cancer evolves almost unnoticeable. The symptomatic states in this phase are almost invisible and in most of the cases it can mimic other diseases that affect the ovarian region.

The last two stages are more harmful because they present a more aggressive side of this disease. The development from here on end is far more faster in the spreading process and it often leads to several complications.

The imbalanced cell activity trigger out a peculiar form of this affection that leads to the formation of tumor cell conglomerates. These cell tissue masses are often malignant and required surgical intervention, chemo therapy, radio therapy and far more other forms of treatments that are available in the attempt to remove the tumor.

Statistics in this particular area of ovarian cancer removal or treatment point out that fifty five percent of all women that suffered a surgical intervention in order to remove the cancerous tumor, have encountered cases of recurrence.

This is because the same tissue cells that create the tumor formation, still remain in the tissue after the surgery and after a few years it can regroup and form again.

This is why a constant regular visit to the gynecologist is required.
